Happy Sunday!
We had another FABULOUS week last week, it was truly a week of FIRSTS! First some SHOUT OUTS! SHOUT OUT to the parents of: Luiz Otavio, Lola, Keenan, and Carter. They, and many of my friends, donated to the two DonorsChoose projects I created and helped me get about $500 worth of new resources in the room to help all students read and write. We started receiving our goodies on Friday. I can't wait to use them with my Rock Stars. Thanks for supporting your child's classroom. SHOUT OUT again to Lola's mom and dad for sending us a box of Magformers. I also picked up a set and the kids LOVE using them in the morning during STEM time. Thanks again for helping us expand! SHOUT OUT to the parents of: Ibrahim, Kevin, and Keenan for sending in treasure box goodies. I feel like I may have forgotten someone that sent in goodies, if I did, I apologize! Thank you all for your kindness! First Food Truck Family Night It was so much fun! We had 13 families there and it was lovely seeing everyone play together. I loved that they wore their class shirts, it made it so easy to find them! I can't wait for the next time! First Visit with our Reader Pals We met our Reader Pals. They are the students in Miss Lindholm's fourth grade class. Each week they will come down and read with your children for 20 minutes. It is really sweet watching them. First Visit from Mrs. Barbara and Ava-Peach Our Pawsitive Reader program started this week. The students all did very well with Ava-Peach. She is a friendly doggy, and they enjoyed watching her do tricks at the end! First Day with a Guest Teacher Mrs. Franny taught them while I attended a training on the Balanced Literacy model. They did great with her, I am so proud of them! First Day with a "Student Teacher" Last year I went through the training to become Clinical Educator Certified. This means students that are attending local colleges to become teachers can be placed with me as part of their program. I had my very first one on Friday, and it was such a crazy morning. I told her that as a teacher you need to know that things don't always go as planned, and you have to be prepared for the unexpected. I hope I didn't scare her away. 😉 She will be in the classroom for the next week or so, but will only observing, not teaching at all. Pictures Pictures went home on Friday. If you do not like them, make-ups are this week. How could you not like them? Your kids are the cutest! Math Test Chapter 2 Math test will be on Tuesday. The review for the test will go home tomorrow. XtraMath Some of you were concerned with their score. For example, a 67 should not be looked at as "failing." It just means they are 67% fluent with the Addition Program. They have all year to become fluent in two different programs, Addition and Addition & Subtraction. What is MOST important right now is that they understand the why, and the different strategies they can use to become more fluent. On Wednesday we start chapter 3 in Math and I will teach them many strategies to help them become more fluent in Math. Please don't stress it, they will get it. Tutors Someone asked me for a tutor list for a sibling at our conference, and I thought it would be beneficial to share with everyone. Here is where you can find it: https://www.browardschools.com/domain/13728 Field Trip Forms Remember they are due this Friday and I cannot take them late. Please make sure to write the online confirmation number on the form. i-Ready The district is having issues, when you get to the screen I sent you the other day, please remember this is how you will enter your child's login number. They still have to do i-Ready every night and may need your assistance logging in until the issue is corrected. I know we are going to have another amazing week! Have a good one, and make sure you check our Shutterfly album for the pictures from this week. https://mrsegansrockstarreaders2018.shutterfly.com
