Rock Star Update 1/28/18

Literacy Week
Literacy Week was an absolute blast! We had so much fun, make sure you check out the pictures on Shutterfly. Thank you to Dawn, Ryker's mother, and Alicia, Gabriel's mother, for being our mystery readers. You both did such a great job!  We were definitely a bit off schedule this week, so I will do my best to squeeze in the spelling quiz we missed tomorrow.  It really was one of the best weeks of the year.  Your children amaze me more and more each day. 

i-Ready Diagnostic 
Monday and Tuesday morning the student's will take their second i-Ready diagnostic test. This test will see how much they have grown in the five domains of Reading. Their performance on this test will also be used to shape their lesson plans on i-Ready.  Remember i-Ready must be done for at least 15 minutes a night Monday-Friday.  Trust me, this is MUCH easier than the homework packages the rest of our first graders receive.  Remind your child to do their best and take their time.  I will e-mail you the results sometime over the next couple of weeks. 

100th Day of School - February 12th
For the 100th day of school please have you child dress up as they would look if they were 100 years old. Some great ideas can be found in your closets or at thrift stores! You can use wigs, glasses, gray hair, stockings, etc. Be creative and have fun!  We did a FUN writing prompt about this, and I also taught them how to draw themselves!  Check out the pictures on Shutterfly!

Valentine's Day
We have our field trip on Valentine's Day. We will still have an exchange before dismissal. If you would like your little one to bring in cards or candy to pass out you are more than welcome to. Please have your child sign each card with their name, but please do not mark who each one is for.​  It is difficult and time consuming for the children to pass them out. Remember we have 20 students in our classroom. 😊

Valentine's Box or Bag
Please have you child decorate a box for Valentine's Day. You can use a shoe box, cereal box, paper bag, or whatever you have at home. They will use this to store all of their Valentine's goodies! Please have them bring in their boxes on the morning on February 14th.  Please send in your child's cards/treats in a  separate bag for them to hand out. 😊


Field Trip
You are able to pay for the field trip online now. Please remember they are due on 2/9, with no exceptions.  Your child will wear their field day shirts on the trip so we can easily be seen. I have the shirts laundered and ready to go! I will have them change when they arrive to school that morning.
