Good Evening Parents!

Please read this e-mail in its entirety and REPLY that you received it! Thanks!

Field Trip Forms Due NO LATER THAN TOMORROW!
If you need another one, you can find it here.
Birthday Thanks
Thank you so much for your sweet gifts and lovely cards.  I absolutely LOVE reading notes from them!  Alicia made a gorgeous frame with a group picture inside of it, and all of your kids signed it. It's so nice!  We were also so fortunate to have cupcakes from Mustard Seed Bistro as well! If you haven't been there, please check it out, it's been my favorite restaurant for many years, and they do a lot for Tropical Elementary and our community!
I had an AMAZING birthday with your children. Please check out the pictures on the website.  My daughter's birthday was yesterday, and my husband's is today....so it's been a very busy weekend!

Homework and Newsletter
This week I will start giving grades for completion of i-Ready lessons.  As you see on the Newsletter, they should complete at least two i-Ready lessons this week, and study their spelling words and sight words the other nights.  Next week, it will go up to three.  So far, I have only been checking for Math homework, and the majority of the class completes it regularly.
You can study spelling words many ways, and this week you received a spelling tic-tac-toe sheet with some examples, and you can also connect to our class GoNoodle account here and complete the "Body Spell" brain break.  Sending in proof that your child completed the spelling practice is not necessary.  On the other side of Spelling Tic Tac Toe for Lesson 2, is the story of the week.  Your child should read it at home, we also read it at school. They are given a comprehension quiz at the end of the week on the story.  Fridays they are also given a Spelling quiz. This week we did it on dry erase boards and it was differentiated, the higher readers were given harder words than our emerging readers.  They all did really well!
Open House Paperwork
Thank you to those of you that have returned the forms. If you have not yet, please open up the blue folder and go through the paperwork and send back in the appropriate forms.  Batty Bingo is sold out, but there are other important forms in there such as the Guided Reading Book forms, and Sight Word lists. The Class Treasurer Forms need to be returned to Alicia as soon as possible so she can plan for the Halloween party.
Graded Work
Sometime this week, hopefully tomorrow, quite a bit of graded work will come home. You should look through the papers and give your child high-fives for great grades, and review and sign any papers that indicate they need your signature.

Website Updates
There are some new pages on the website. Check them out!

-Fundations Home Connections tells you what we are doing in Fundations.  Fundations is our phonics program, and it really is great for you to see. We are currently on Day 3 of Unit 2.

-BCPS Read-at-Home Plan  Broward County just released this document.  It is VERY good, and shows you how to help your emerging reader at home. Those of you with struggling readers will receive this document at our conference. However, I recommend everyone takes a look at it!

-Journeys (Reading) Resources gives you additional worksheet pages you can use with your child at home to help them with what we are learning in Reading that week. These are great for emerging readers and those children reading "on-level."  The newsletter tells you what lesson we are on.

-GoMATH Resources gives you support at home if your child does not understand the lesson, or needs to be challenged. Reteach lessons are to help your child that may not understand. Enrich lessons will challenge your child to apply what they have been taught and understand. The math pages that go home daily, tell you what chapter we are on.

-Fluency Practice (Higher Readers) I have placed some Fluency Practice on the website. This is from when I taught second grade, so our emerging readers and on-level readers may not benefit from it yet. If your child is reading above grade level, please feel free to read the intro letter, and print out the first week and enjoy!

I hope you have an amazing week, and please don't forget to reply that you received this e-mail. Let me know any questions you may have!

Yours Educationally,

Mrs. Egan
