The Share-A-Pet Pawsitive Reading Program visits Mrs. Egan’s Rock Stars every Friday morning. The mission of this program is to provide students the means to improve their reading skills in a supportive atmosphere created by the Share-A-Pet volunteers and therapy dogs. My students enjoy reading to Clementine and Ava Peach, and our therapy dogs also love the attention they receive from their first grade friends!
I am always seeking out ways to build motivation in my classroom. Since implementing the Pawsitive Reading Program with Share-A-Pet volunteers, Barbara Prezioso and Marsha Rous, my students are excited to read and it has boosted their self-confidence as well. Students anxiously watch the clock on Friday mornings, because they are so eager to read to their furry friends! My students that are shy or embarrassed to read aloud seem more relaxed while reading with the dog’s head in their lap, because of their natural attraction to animals. It is such a great program, and I am thankful that Share-A-Pet services Tropical Elementary School.
